The Montana Professional Teaching Foundation, based in Helena, coordinates the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) awards in Montana.

“Our foundation is honored to administer these awards – the nation’s highest honors for math and science teaching,” said foundation chair Eric Feaver. “It’s part of our mission to promote top-quality teaching and learning in Montana. Awardees like Elizabeth Matthews and Melissa Romano are leading the way — developing cutting-edge teaching methods to get kids excited about math and science. They are preparing Montana students for careers in engineering, technology, medicine, and more. Plus, these teachers serve as models for their colleagues and leaders in the improvement of math and science education.”

The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching are awarded annually to outstanding K-12 science and mathematics teachers across the country. The winners are selected by a panel of distinguished scientists, mathematicians, and educators following an initial selection process done at the state level.

Each year, the award alternates between teachers teaching kindergarten through 6th grade and those teaching 7th through 12th grades.

Nominations for the 2014 Presidential Awards are open through April 1, 2014, for science and math teachers in grades K-6. To nominate a teacher or learn more, contact Marco Ferro at the Montana Professional Teaching Foundation, [email protected], or visit www.paemst.org.
