On Wednesday, April 8, the House Health and Human Services Committee will hear SB 411, the bill to close the Montana Developmental Center in Boulder. SB 411 (Caferro) – Fiscal Note. Passed Senate.
MEA-MFT adamantly opposes closing MDC as outlined in SB 411.
Sheltering, treating, caring for our most seriously troubled citizens is a primary state responsibility that should never be surrendered to privatization. If and when the state errs, it must accept full accountability and fix its error, and in so doing never surrender its accountability to all of us.

For the record, MEA-MFT represents the professional staff and registered nurses working hard at MDC.
MDC provides treatment and care for Montana’s most disturbed citizens – including those with developmental disabilities as well as mental illness. Most of them could not be treated in community settings. Many would have nowhere to go if MDC closes.
