WHAT: First-ever “ECET2-Montana” event
(Elevating & Celebrating Effective Teaching & Teachers)

WHEN: July 22-23, 2014

WHERE: Northern Hotel & Skyview High School, Billings, Montana

WHO: Montana teachers and education leaders from across the state

WHY: In January 2014, Bozeman math teacher Anne Keith, 2010 Montana Teacher of the Year, attended a national conference for teachers called Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teaching & Teachers (ECET2), sponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Anne was so inspired, she wrote and received a grant from the Gates Foundation to hold the first ever ECET2-Montana. The Montana Professional Teaching Foundation and MEA-MFT are helping fund this event. The goal is to celebrate the accomplishments of Montana’s teachers and brainstorm ways to elevate the teaching profession and share teaching ideas that work in Montana.

The event begins a celebratory dinner Tuesday, July 22, at the Northern Hotel in downtown Billings.

Events on the 23rd will take place 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Skyview High School. A keynote speaker will start the day, then participants will meet in break-out sessions to learn from each other.

Break-outs address topics such as “Sticking With It” (addressing Montana’s coming teacher shortage), “Lit Happens” (integrating literacy skills into core subjects), and “Preparing Students for a Global World.”

Presenters include several Montana Teachers of the Year, National Board Certified teachers, and other award-winning Montana educators.
